दुर्घटनाका पीडित परिवारलाई आरएमआर फाउन्डेसनले सहयोग गर्ने

काठमाडौं, १७ बैशाख । कामको शिलशिलामा भारत गएर फर्कने क्रममा बस दुर्घटनामा बाबु गुमाएका मुगुका धनराज रोकायालाई रेडियम लामिछाने फाउन्डेसन (आरएमआर फाउन्डेसन) ले माध्यमिक तहसम्मको शिक्षाका लागि छात्रवृत्ति दिएर सहयोग गर्ने भएको छ

ललितपुरको टिकाथालीमा रहेको होप राइजिङ्ग चिल्ड्रेन होममा बसेर महेन्द्रग्राम माध्यमिक विद्यालय टिकाथालीमा कक्षा दुईमा अध्ययनरत रोकायालाई माध्यमिक तहसम्मको पठनपाठन आर्थिक सहयोग गर्ने आरएमआर फाउन्डेसनका महासचिव डाइमण्ड लामिछानेले बताए ।
२२ वर्षको उमेरमा काठमाडौंको बनस्थालिमा मोटरसाइकल दुर्घटनाम परेर ज्यान गुमाएका रेडियम लामिछानेको सम्झनामा स्थापना भएको आरएमआर फाउन्डेसनले सडक दुर्घटना ज्यान गुमाएका पीडित परिवारको सहयोगमा काम गर्ने र घाइतेको उद्धार र राहतमा सहयोग गर्ने उदेश्य राखेको हुनाले रोकायाको शिक्षामा सहयोग गरिएको उनको भनाइ छ ।
सडक दुर्घटनाबाट बाबुआमा गुमाएका १०  जना सन्तानको पढाइमा वार्षिक रुपमा सहयोग फाउन्डेसनले जनाएको छ । दुर्घटना पीडित परिवारलाई सहयोग गर्नका लागि स्थापना भएको संस्था भएकाले त्यसैमा केन्द्रित भएर सामाजिक कार्य गरिने संस्थाको भनाइ छ । यसका लागि अक्षयकोष स्थापना गरिएको भन्दै भविष्यमा ति बालबालिकाहरुको उच्च शिक्षामा पनि सहयोग गर्ने तयारीरहेको लामिछानेले बताए ।
फाउन्डेसनको सहयोगमा विद्यालयस्तरको शिक्षा पुरा गर्न पाउने भएपछि रोकायाले खुसी हुँदै भविष्यमा डाक्टर बन्ने लक्ष्य रहेको बताए । उनले डाक्टर बनेर दुर्घटनामा घाइते भएका मानिसहरुको उपचार गरेर नयाँ जीवन दिने आफ्नो इच्छा रहेको सुनाए ।
होप राइजिङ्ग चिल्ड्रेन होममा पुगेर फाउन्डेसनले खानेकुरा , खेलकुदका सामग्री ,पाठ्यपुस्तक, कपि , कलम लगायतका पठनपाठनका सामग्री र लत्ता, कपडा वितरण गरेको छ ।
होप राइजिङ्ग चिल्ड्रेन होमका संचालक नन्दऋषि आचार्यले चिल्ड्रेन होममा बाबुआमा फेलानपरेका २५ जना बालबच्चा रहेको जानकारी दिए । ति मध्ये २ बालिका र २३ जना बालक रहेका छन् । सबैलाई नजिकैको महेन्द्रग्राम माध्यमिक विद्यालयमा अध्ययन व्यवस्थाम मिलाइएको उनले बताए ।
होममा सबैभन्दा बढी कर्णालीका बालबालिका रहेका छन् ।

दक्षिणपूर्वी म्यानमारमा बस दुर्घटना, १९ जनाको मृत्यु

याङ्गुन, वैशाख १६– म्यानमारको दक्षिणपश्चिमी राज्य कयीनको एसियन राजमार्गमा भएको यात्रुबाहक बस दुर्घटनामा परी कम्तीमा १९ व्यक्तिको मृत्यु भएको छ ।

यस दुर्घटनामा परी अन्य २१ जना घाइते भएका सरकारी स्रोतले शनिबार जनाकारी दिएको छ ।

एयर कन्डिसनको सेवा उपलब्ध भएको यस बसमा ४० भन्दा बढी व्यक्ति सवार रहेका जनाइएको छ ।

सो बस ३० किलोमिटर गहिराइमा खसेको बताइएको छ । स्थानीय समायानुसार शुक्रबार बिहान १०ः४५ बजे सो बस दुर्घटना भएको थियो । (एजेन्सी)

बिरामी बोकेको एम्बुलेन्स दुर्घटना, तीन जना घाइते

नवलपरासी, वैसाख १७ । 

गत राति पश्चिमबाट पूर्व तर्फ जादै गरेको एम्बुलेन्स दुर्घटना हुँदा तीन जना घाइते भएका छन् ।

नवपरासीको सुनवल–७ ज्यामिरेमा राति २ बजे बाकेबाट बिरामी बोकेर भरतपुरतर्फ जाँदै गरेको भे १ च १७४९ नम्बरको एम्बुलेन्स अनियन्त्रित भई सडक छेउमा दुर्घटनाग्रत बनेको हो ।

दुर्घटनामा परी बाँके कोहलपुर नगरपालिका वार्ड नम्बर १२ बस्ने ५३ बर्षिया लिला केसी घाइते भएकी छिन् । अन्य दुई घाइतेको नाम ठेगाना नखुलेको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ ।

घाइतेहरुको देवदह मेडिकल कलेज भलुहीमा उपचार भइरहेको छ ।

एम्बुलेन्सको टायरको रड भाँचिदा अनियन्त्रित भई सडकमा पल्टेको जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालय नवलपरासीका प्रहरी हवल्दार गेद बहादुर चन्दले जानकारी दिए ।

बस दुर्घटनाका घाइतेलाई उपचार नगर्ने मणिपाल र चिकित्सक दुबै दोषी ठहर

स्वास्थ्य मन्त्रालयले गठन गरेको कार्यदलले पोखराको मणिपाल मेडिकल कलेज र चिकित्सकसँग स्पस्टिकरण मागेर मंगलबार काठमाडौं फर्किएको छ। सोमबार अस्पताललाई स्पष्टिकरण बुझाएको मन्त्रालयका चिकित्सा सेवा महाशाखाका प्रमुख डा. भोलाराम श्रेष्ठ संयोजकको टोलीले शनिबारको घटनाको छानबिन गरि फर्किएको हो। मुस्ताङको कागबेनीमा शनिबार भएको बस दुर्घटनामा परी घाइते भएका १४ जनालाई हेलिकोप्टरबाट मणिपाल ल्याइएकोमा उपचार गर्न नसकिने भन्दै कलेज प्रशासनले अन्यत्र पठाएको थियो। उक्त घटनापछि आइतबार स्वास्थ्य मन्त्रालयले छानबिनका लागि कार्यदल बनाएको थियो।

कार्यदल संयोजक श्रेष्ठले छानबिनबाट अस्पताल प्रशासन र चिकित्सक दुबै दोषी रहेको बताए। उनले को कति दोषी छ भन्ने बारेमा कानुन हेरेर कारबाही अगाडि बढाउने बताए। उनले चिकित्सकहरुको समस्या विरामीसँग नभई व्यवस्थापन हुँदा पनि बिरामीको उपचार नगर्नु दण्डनीय भएको बताए। उनले प्रशासनलाई दवाव दिने अन्य उपाए भए पनि चिकित्सकहरुले ओपिडि र अनकल विरामी नहेर्नु चिकित्सकको दोष भएको बताए। उनले अस्पतालले चिकित्सकहरुलाई विरामी आएको खबर नगरेर दोषी देखिएको बताए। ‘हामीले व्यवस्थापनमा के के कमजोरी भयो भनेर अध्ययन गरेका छौ,’ उनले भने, ‘ती कम्जोरीहरुलाई कानुनले कसरी दण्डनीय गरेको छ, त्यसै अनुसार कानुनी कारबाही अगाडि बढ्छ।’ उनले यस्तो समस्या आगामी दिनमा कुनै पनि अस्पतालमा नदोहोरिने गरि समाधानको बाटो खोज्ने बताए। मन्त्रालयको चिकित्सा सेवा महाशाखाका प्रमुख डा. भोलाराम श्रेष्ठ संयोजक रहेको ३ सदस्यीय कार्यदल सोमबार नै पोखरा आएर प्रारम्भिक अध्ययन पनि थालेको थियो। कार्यदलमा नेपाल मेडिकल काउन्सिलका सदस्य डा ढुण्डिराज पौडेल र मन्त्रालयका उपसचिव भवनाथ खतिवडा छन्। उनीहरुलाई पश्चिमाञ्चल क्षेत्रीय स्वास्थ्य निर्देशनालयका प्रमुख तारानाथ शर्माले सघाएका थिए।

जेब्रा क्रसबाट बाटो काट्दै गर्दा मोटरसाइकलको ठक्करबाट पूर्व गृहसचिवको मृत्यु

जेब्रा क्रसबाट बाटो काट्ने क्रममा काठमाडौंको अनामगरमा पूर्व गृह सचिव पद्मराज सुवेदीको मृत्यु भएको छ। आइतबार अनामनगरस्थित बाजेको सेकुवा अगाडिपट्टी रहेको जेब्रा क्रसबाट बाटो काट्ने क्रममा ७९ वर्षीय सुबेदीलाई मोटरसाइकलले ठक्कर दिएको सिंहदरबारका ट्राफिक प्रहरी निरीक्षक बाबुकाजी गिरीले सेतोपाटीलाई जानकारी दिए।

अनामनगरबाट हनुमानमन्दिर तर्फ आउँदै गरेको बा ७९ प ४३९२ नम्बरको मोटरसाइकलले उनलाई ठक्कर दिएको थियो।  ठक्करपछि घाइते भएका उनको माइतीघरस्थित अन्नपूर्ण न्युरो अस्पतालमा निधन भएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ। प्रहरीले मोटरसाइकल चालक त्रिपुरेश्वर बस्ने बिवेक बस्नेतलाई नियन्त्रणमा लिएको छ।

सुवेदी अनामनगरस्थित आफ्नै घरमा बस्दै आएका थिए। पछिल्लो समय उनी सामाजिक कार्यमा सम्लग्न थिए। स्थानीयका अनुसार उनले नै अनामनगरको क्षेत्रको नामाकरण गरेका थिए। 

मोरङको कानेपोखरीमा बस दुर्घटना, एकको मृत्यु १० घाइते

पूर्व-पश्चिमको

महेन्द्र राजमार्गको कानेपोखरीमा भएको यात्रुबहाक बस दुर्घटनामा एक जनाको ज्यान जानुका साथै कम्तिमा १० जना घाइते भएका छन्। दुर्घटनामा परी बसका सहचालकको मृत्यु भएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ।

झापाको काकडभिट्टाबाट यात्रु लिएर बिराटनगर तर्फ जादै गरेको को १ ख ४९८८  नं को यात्रुवाहक बस मोरङको कानेपोखरी बाट ५०० मिटर पश्चिम चिसाङ पुल नजिक दुर्घटना हुँदा बसका सहचालकको मृत्यु भएको हो।

त्यस्तै १० जना यात्रुहरू घाइते भएका छन्। उनीहरूको पथरी अस्पतालमा उपचार भइरहेको छ। घाईतेहरुमा लेटाङ नगरपालिका निवासी शनि बहादुर तामाङ, प्रेम बहादुर तामाङ, बिर्ख बहादुर तामाङ, भोजपुर निवासी संयोग सापकोटा, बिनोद सापकोटा, बयरबन निवासी रसिका सुबेदी, हर्क माया सुबेदी, हिमाल सुबेदी, झापाका प्रतिमा गिरी, खोर्साने मोरङकी लिलामाया मिश्र छन्।

दुर्घटनामा परी ज्यान गुमाउनेको विवरण खुल्न सकेको छैन। मृतकको शव मोरङको मंगलबारे अस्पतालमा राखिएको छ ।

बस तिब्र गतिमा भएकाले अनियन्त्रीत भई दुर्घटना भएको हुन्नसक्ने प्रहरीको प्रारम्भीक अनुमान छ।

बस दुर्घटना : उपचारमा अस्पतालको चरम लापरबाही

पोखरा वैशाख ९ । 

मुस्ताङको कागबेनीमा शनिबार दिउँसो तीर्थयात्री सवार बस दुर्घटना हुँदा पाँचजनाको मृत्यु भएको छ ।

 मुक्तिनाथ दर्शन गर्न गएका तीर्थयात्री बोकेर जोमसोमतर्फ फर्कंदै गरेको ना५ख ६०६७ नम्बरको बस कागबेनीनजिक दुर्घटना हुँदा तीनजनाको घटनास्थलमै र दुईजनाको उपचारकाक्रममा जिल्ला अस्पताल मुस्ताङमा मृत्यु भएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ ।

घाइते ३० जनामध्ये १२ जनाको अवस्था गम्भीर रहेको मुस्ताङका प्रहरी प्रमुख हरिहरनाथ योगीले जानकारी दिए ।

मृत्यु हुनेमा भक्तपुर जिल्ला, महालक्ष्मी नगरपालिका–२ इमाडोलका ५५ वर्षीय लिला खड्का, सोही नगरपालिका–८ की सीता तिमिल्सिना, काठमाडौं महानगरपालिका–३५ का ५५ वर्षीय भोला अधिकारी, काठमाडौं–३२ कै ४५ वर्षीय पुरुषोत्तम ढकाल र काठमाडौं–३ की ७० वर्षीया कान्छी खड्का रहेका छन् ।

गम्भीर घाइते भएका १२ जनालाई थप उपचारका लागि नेपाली सेनाको हेलिकोप्टरमार्फत् पोखरा ल्याइ विभिन्न अस्पतालमा उपचार भइरहेको छ ।

मुस्ताङमा शनिबार भएको बस दुर्घटनाका घाइतेहरुको उपचारमा पोखराको मणिपाल शिक्षण अस्पतालको चरम लापरबाही देखिएको छ ।

सेनाको हेलिकोप्टरमार्फत् दिउँसो घाइते ल्याइएपनि अस्पतालमा चलेको आन्दोलनको कारण आधाघन्टाजति बिरामीलाई अस्पतालअगाडि हेलिकोप्टरमै राखिएको थियो ।

प्रशासनले बिरामीलाई उपचार गराउन आग्रह गर्दा अस्पतालले बिरामी नलिने भनेपछि पोखराका विभिन्न अस्पतालका एम्बुलेन्स बोलाएर बिरामीलाई उपचारार्थ लगिएको थियो ।

वडा प्रहरी कार्यालय बगरका प्रहरी निरीक्षक किशोर लम्सालले अस्पतालले बिरामी भर्ना लिन नमानेपछि अरु अस्पतालमा पठाएको जानकारी दिए ।

सेनाको हेलिकोप्टरबाट बिरामी लिएर आएका पाइलटले भने–‘खराब मौसममा जोखिम मोलेर घाइतेको उद्धार गरी अस्पताल ल्याइयो, घाइतेलाई आधाघन्टा हेलिकोप्टरमा राख्नुपर्दा हाम्रो दुःखको के अर्थ ?’

उपचारार्थ पोखरा ल्याइएका १२ जना घाइतेको हात, खुट्टा, कम्मर र टाउकोमा गम्भीर चोट लागेको उपचारमा संलग्न चिकित्सकले जनाएका छन् ।

सीता एयरको विमान ठूलो दुर्घटनाबाट जोगियो

सोलुखुम्बु, वैशाख १०।
 सीता एयरलाइन्सको विमान दुर्घटनाबाट जोगिएको छ ।  

काठमाडौंबाट लुक्लाका लागि उडेको नौ एनएएचआर सीता एयरको विमानलाई लुक्लाको मौसम प्रतिकूलताका कारण फाप्लु विमानस्थलमा आकस्मिक अवतरण गराइएको थियो ।

आज बिहान करिब ८ बजे अवतरणका क्रममा विमानस्थलको भित्तामा ठोक्किएर विमानको पखेटा फुटेको तर अन्य क्षति नभएको जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालय सोलुखुम्बुले जनाएको छ ।

विमानमा चालक दलका तीन सदस्यसहित १७ यात्रु सवार थिए । तीमध्ये १२ विदेशी रहेको प्रहरी नायब उपरीक्षक माधवप्रसाद बुढाथोकीले जानकारी दिए।

फिस्लिङमा ट्रक जुध्यो, एकको मृत्यु, पाँच घाईते

चितवन, वैशाख १० । चितवनको इच्छाकामना गाउँपालिका–३ फिस्लिङमा आज (आईतबार) विहान दुई ट्रक एक आपसमा ठोक्दिा एक जनाको मृत्यु भएको छ भने पाँच जना घाईते भएका छन् । 

विहान साँढे ६ बजेको समयमा मुग्लिनबाट काठमाडौं जाँदै गरेको बा २ ख १९५८ नम्बरको ट्रक र विपरीत दिशाबाट आउँदै ना ५ ख ९१९० नम्बरको ट्रक एक आपसमा ठोक्दिा सो दुर्घटना भएको हो ।

दुर्घटनामा परि बा २ ख १९५८ नम्बरको ट्रक चालकको च्यापिएर घटनास्थलमै मृत्यु भएको चितवन प्रहरीले जनाएको छ । उनको सनाखत भने भएको छैन् ।

यस्तै ना ५ ख ९१९० नम्बरको ट्रक चालकसहित पाँच जना घाईते भएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ । उनीहरुलाई उपचारका लागि धादिङ तर्फ पठाइएको छ ।

हेटौंडामा ट्यांकरको ठक्करबाट मोटरसाइकल चालकको मृत्यु

हेटाैंडा 

मकवानपुरको हेटौंडामा ट्यांकरको ठक्करबाट एकजना मोटरसाएकल चालकको ज्यान गएको छ।

पूर्वपश्चिम राजमार्ग अन्तर्गत हेटौंडा–१० कर्रामा आइतबार दिउँसो ना ६ ख १०९१ नम्बरको ट्यांकरले ना ७ प ९६२ नम्बरको मोटरसाइकलमा सवार गढी गाउँपालिका–६ का घनश्याम बञ्जराको मृत्यु भएको जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालय मकवानपुरले जनाएको छ। दुर्घटनामा गम्भीर घाइते भएका बञ्जाराको उपचारका लागि अस्पताल लैजाँदै गर्दा बाटोमै मृत्यु भएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ।

हेटाँैडाबाट पथलैयातर्फ जाँदै गरेको मोटरसाइकल रोक्न खोज्दा अनियन्त्रित भर्इँ लडेपछि सोही दिशाबाट आउँदै गरेको ट्यांकरले ठक्कर दिएको मकवानपुर प्रहरी प्रमुख बसन्तकुमार लामाले बताउनुभयो। ठक्कर दिने ट्यांकर र चालकलाई प्रहरीले आफ्नो नियन्त्रणमा लिएको लामाले जानकारी दिनुभयो।

पाल्पामा छुट्टाछुट्टै दुर्घटनामा पाँचको मृत्यु, दुई घाइते

तानसेनः पाल्पामा भएका छुट्टाछुट्टै दुर्घटनामा पाँच जनाको मृत्यु भएको छ। सिद्धार्थ राजमार्गबाट गिट्टी खानीतर्फ जाँदै गरेको लु १ ख ९०३१ नम्बरको टिप्पर तिनाउँ गाउँपालिका–३ झुम्सामा दुर्घटना हुँदा चार जनाको घटनास्थलमै मृत्यु भएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ।

दुर्घटनामा तिनाउँ गाउँपालिका–३ का चालक पूर्णबहादुर सारु, उनकी श्रीमती वाल कुमारी सारु, छोरा हिमेश सारु र टिप्परका सहचालक विमल कनौजेको घटनास्थलमै मृत्यु भएको प्रहरीले जनदाएको छ। उकालो कच्ची मोडमा विपरित दिशाबाट आएको टिप्परलाई साइड दिँदा दुर्घटना भएको बताइएको छ।
टिप्पर सडकबाट दुई सय मिटर तल खसेको छ।

यस्तै, पाल्पाकै रिव्दिकोट गाउँपालिका–७ मा जिप दुर्घटना हुँदा एक जनाको मृत्यु भएको छ। दुर्घटनामा अन्य दुईजना घाइते भएका छन्। वतासेबाट तानसेन आउँदै गरेको लु १ ज १५८१ नम्वरको जिप दुर्घटना हुँदा रिव्दिकोट–७ का रामबहादुर गाहाको घटनास्थलमै मृत्यु भएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ। दुर्घटनामा घाइते भएका प्रेमबहादुर गाहा र भुवन गाहाको मिशन अस्पताल तानसेनमा उपचार भइरहेको छ।

No horn please, on Mondays: Cops, India

After cracking down against flouting of various traffic rules, especially speaking on mobile phones while driving, the police have now shifted their focus to the honking menace.

To begin with, the police have decided to launch an awareness campaign from Monday, which will be a "no-horn day".

The police said that after initial awareness, they will start penalising motorists caught honking unnecessarily on the city's roads.  
 
"Sound pollution is a menace greatly affecting every human being. Loud noise also raises the blood pressure and heart beats. The initiative is a step forward in building a city that respects people and has a patient approach to traffic problems," city police chief Ravinder Singal said on Saturday.

He appealed to every citizen to make Nashik city organised and peaceful.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone 1) Laxmikant Patil said that the no-horn day has been initiated by the police commissioner. Apart from awareness, strict action will be taken against motorists seen honking in silent zones, said Patil.

There are many silent zones in the city, mainly around schools and hospitals. However, the boards announcing silent zones are brazenly ignored by motorists

A senior police official said that with the right kind of awareness and action against motorists for honking would certainly help in bringing the noise levels down.

The official said that if a motorists adopts defensive driving, he or she not only brings down the chances of accidents, but also contributes in bringing the sound pollution down.

Suresh Lokhande, a resident of the Nashik Road area, said, "Apart from people who have residences along busy roads, elderly pedestrians are the ones who suffer the most because of honking.

He said that action against such motorists on busy roads is welcome but police should also keep a watch on erring motorists in the interior parts of the city.

23 killed in 182 road accidents in a week across Nepal

KATHMANDU
As many as 23 people lost their lives in road accidents in the country during the week from August 18 to 25.
According to a Traffic Accident Statistics issued by Nepal Police, 46 persons were critically injured while 181 sustained minor injuries in the accidents.
Total 182 accidents were recorded during this period.
A total of 315 vehicles were involved in the mishaps during the period, in which the two-wheelers (124) topped the graph.

Cars and vans, passenger buses, tankers and trucks were other vehicles involved in the accidents after bikes and scooters, according to police.
Similarly, eight carts and cycles, six tractors, and five three-wheelers (tempos) also met with the accidents.
Most of such mishaps have largely been attributed to reckless driving, over-speed and mechanical malfunctioning, according to police. Similarly, accidents have also occurred due to the passenger’s fault and overtaking incidents, identified the law enforcement body.
The statistics also revealed that most of  the accidents (45.6 per cent) occurred from noon to 6 pm whereas the quarter of the day which saw the least accidents was from midnight to 6 am.

No Horn regulation comes into effect , 1st Baisakh, Nepal.

The “No Horn” regulation of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Traffic Police Department and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City came into effect on Friday. And though it was touted as a success on the very first day of implementation, with fewer vehicles on the roads on Friday due to New Year’s holiday, whether the authorities really succeeded in driving home the message of “no unnecessary honking” to the motorists remains to be seen, or heard, for that matter.
Come Sunday-- when the traffic volume of the Valley assumes normalcy, if there are indeed fewer beeps and toots on the roads, then the campaign will have succeeded.
Lokendra Malla, the spokesperson of the traffic department, believes the new regulation is going to work.
“We found unnecessary honking reduced significantly on the first day,” he told the Post, adding that they expect the motorists will follow the regulation even on weekdays when the traffic is high.

The KMC has also placed high hopes. Its spokesperson, Gyanendra Karki, says the initiative will yield positive results by reducing the traffic noise level.
“To make sure that this campaign succeeds, we have been aggressively disseminating our message to the public through print, broadcast and online media,” he adds.
While the No Horn rule is exempted for ambulances, fire engines and police vehicles, it says other vehicles are allowed to honk only at turning points and in case of emergency. But what constitutes “an emergency” has not been defined. 
The public have mixed feelings about the regulation. While a section has welcomed the drive, others have outright ridiculed it.

Surindra Timelsina, of Pepsicola, says there are plenty of other things that need urgent attention, like controlling air pollution, fixing traffic signals and enforcing vehicle emission standard, forcing people not to honk their horn is not it.
“The authorities must first resolve the problem of traffic jam in Kathmandu Valley if they really want the motorists to stop honking horns.”

Drunk bus driver puts lives of students at risk, India

Trichy, India

A drunken bus driver put the lives of 30 students on board and motorists on the road a scare on Thursday with his rash driving. The college bus with the students hit an auto rickshaw carrying a family of five and sped away, but was chased down by motorists as it was being driven in a haphazard manner.

The driver identified as Thirunavukarasu, 43, from Allur, was found to be driving the bus under the influence of alcohol which was confirmed by a medical test. He has been booked under various sections for endangering personal safety of others.

The bus was operated by K Ramakrishnan College of Engineering at Samayapuram. The bus picked up the students from Woraiyur at around 8am.

Moving in haphazard manner, the bus hit an auto rickshaw with passengers near Natchiyar temple. Even though the incident left one of the woman passenger in the auto rickshaw injured, the bus sped from the spot.

Irked over the incident, the auto rickshaw driver chased the bus. A few in motorcycles too chase the bus.  
The bus was waylaid by commuters near Rukmani theatre. Finding the driver to be in an inebriated state, he was handed over to the Trichy north traffic investigation wing.

Inspector from Trichy north traffic investigation wing Ramakrishnan confirmed that the medical examination revealed the driver was drunk.

Apart from being booked for drunken driving, cases have been registered under section 279 and 337 of the IPC against Thirunavukkarasu for rash driving or riding on a public way and causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others.

An official from the college said that it may not be possible to check every driver before the start of a trip. "It's a first of its kind incident in the past one decade. Buses start from various points in and around Trichy and it may not be possible to check every driver," said Ilangovan, in-charge of bus operations at the college.

The sole statute governing Road Safety in India, the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (MVA) has proved ineffective in addressing any of the aforementioned issues decisively. Road safety is still not seen as a priority issue in the country. India can do well with a comprehensive national road safety law, the sooner the better. Ministry of surface transport has recently amended MVA to provide stringent penalty and punishment provision in case of flouting rules of driving. Haryana extends accidental insurance cover to all residents

Haryana on Tuesday decided to implement the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) by providing  accidental Insurance cover to all Haryana residents in the age group of 18-70 years, wherein the state goverment would reimburse the premium to the beneficiary. The PMSBY is one of the three flagship social security schemes announced in the 2015 budget by the BJP government at the Centre.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Under the PMSBY, Rs 2 lakh would be the sum insured in case of accidental death, total and irrecoverable loss of both eyes, loss of use of both hands and feet or loss of sight of one eye and loss of use of hand or foot due to accident. In case of total and irrecoverable loss of eye sight in one eye or loss of use of one hand or foot due to accident, sum insured would be Rs 1 lakh.

The accident insurance scheme will have one year cover from June 1 to May 31 and would be offered through banks and administered through public sector general insurance companies. To be eligible for the scheme, the candidate should have Aadhar-linked saving bank accounts. The candidate has to give the consent form to join the scheme and pay the premium of Rs 12 per annum through 'auto-debit' facility in one instalment on or before June 1 of each annual coverage period. This amount will be reimbursed by the state by direct credit to the beneficiary account on receipt of information from bank.

In another decision, the cabinet revised the compounding fee for offences committed under the Motor Vechicles Act, 1988. Now, if a vehicle driver is found not providing smooth passage to an ambulance carrying a patient, he would be fined Rs 2,000 for first offence and Rs 5,000 for subsequent offence. In case a traffic violator running away from the spot, it would attract Rs 500 fine for the first instance and Rs 1,000 for second offence.

If a vehicle is found plying without high security registration plate, compounding fee would be Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 for first and subsequent offence, respectively. Driver using vehicle without having driving license would have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000 for second offence. Under age driver would attract a fine of Rs 1,000 for first offence and Rs 2,000 for subsequent offence. Also, if a driver is using vehicle in contravention of the conditions of learning license, he would have to pay compounding fee of Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000 for first and second offence, respectively. Overloaded vehicle of up to 25% of the permissible load capacity would attract minimum fine of Rs 2,000 and an additional amount of Rs 1,000 per tonne of excess load, together with the liability to pay charges for offloading of excess load.

Passengers scream as bus plunges in Philippines, killing 31

MANILA

Passengers were screaming in horror as the bus driver repeatedly hit the brakes, shouting they weren’t working, before the vehicle plunged into a ravine in the northern Philippines, killing at least 31 people in one of the country’s deadliest recent crashes, officials said Wednesday.
The 46 passengers injured in Tuesday’s crash were retrieved by rescuers who struggled with ropes to descend down the 24-metre (80-foot) deep ravine to reach the wreckage in Nueva Ecija province’s Carranglan town, said Senior Supt. Antonio Yarra, the provincial police chief.

He said at least 77 people were on board the vehicle based on the number of dead and injured, but rescuers returned to the crash site Wednesday morning to look in the grassy area for other possible victims.
A survivor who jumped out the door before the bus plunged said “the driver was shouting, saying the brakes were not working and he has lost control of the bus,” Yarra said in a telephone interview.
Many of the passengers were hospitalized with serious injuries and parents were separated from their children in the confusion, officials said.
“One child here sat beside her mother. The mother was dead,” said Dr. Napoleon Obana of the Veterans Regional Hospital, where some of the victims were taken.
TV footage showed a line of rescuers and villagers, some holding onto a rope to climb up on a grassy slope with a victim on a stretcher. A throng of villagers waited in a clearing above them to help pull the victim to safety.
Passenger Ralph Raymond Grajo said he saw the driver repeatedly stepping on the malfunctioning brakes as the wayward bus was speeding along a downhill road. The driver attempted to steer the bus to the right, but roadside houses made him veer back in the direction of the ravine as horrified passengers watched, Grajo said.
“All the passengers were screaming and somebody in front me told everybody ‘Don’t panic,’ but many were already gripped by panic,” Grajo told DZMM radio network.
Grajo apparently fell out of the bus as it rolled down the ravine and regained consciousness away from the wreckage with injuries to his feet and arms. He said he was among the first to be rescued and brought to a hospital.
Yarra said the driver was among the dead, and that four survivors were in critical condition.
The spot along the road is accident-prone. Tuesday’s crash was the sixth in the area in recent years, a local village official told DZMM.
The impact from the plunge ripped the bus, which could no longer be distinguished at the bottom of the ravine, said Nueva Ecija’s police chief Antonio Yarra. He said investigators could not yet talk to the stunned and injured survivors.
Carranglan police chief Robert de Guzman said the bus from northern Isabela province was on its way to Ilocos Sur, a tobacco- and rice-growing region also in the mountainous northern Philippines, when it crashed shortly before noon in Nueva Ecija, about 200 kilometers (124 miles) north of Manila.
Poorly maintained passenger buses, inadequate road safety features and weak enforcement of local transport laws have been blamed for many vehicular accidents in the Philippines.
In February, a sightseeing bus carrying college students on a camping trip lost its brakes on a steep downhill road and smashed into a concrete electrical post in Tanay town in Rizal province east of Manila, killing 15 people.

Bus crash kills 44 in Himachal Pradesh after plunge off mountain road

A bus fell off a mountain road in a northern Indian state and plunged into a river on Wednesday, killing 44 people, officials said.
There were just two survivors from the 46 on board, its conductor and a passenger who jumped off just before the mishap in the state of Himachal Pradesh, said Anil Chauhan, a local government official.
Rescue efforts have been launched at the accident site near Nerwa, a town about 110 km (68 miles) from Shimla, the state capital, he added.
Deadly traffic accidents are common in India, where driving standards are poor and roads and vehicles badly maintained, but Wednesday’s crash was unusual for its heavy death toll.
India has the world’s deadliest roads, with almost 150,000 people killed in accidents in 2015, the latest government data shows

Scooter rider killed in tipper hit Bhaktapur

BHAKTAPUR
A person died after a scooter he was riding on collided head-on with a tipper in Bhaktapur on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Khaiju (26) of Jhaukhel, Changu Narayan Municipality in the district.
The tipper (Ba 1 Ka 3559) was heading towards Byasi from Kamal Binayak when the collision took place, critically injuring Khaiju at around 3:00 pm yesterday, according to the Bhaktapur Metropolitan Police Range.
Khaiju was rushed to the Sallaghari-based Dr Iwamura Memorial Hospital at Muldhoka where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment, at around 3:50 pm yesterday, informed DSP Krishna Prasain.
Meanwhile, police have impounded both the vehicles and taken the four-wheeler driver Hari Krishna Basi (51) for further investigation.

A 65-year-old man died while three others were injured when two motorcycles collided at Dharampur along the East-West Highway in Jhapa on Saturday. Bikau Mahato of Shivasatakhi-6 died while his son Sushil, Suren Phago of Ilam and Pradip Aryal of Dhading were injured in the collision, police said. The injured are receiving treatment at B&C Hospital in Birtamod.

One killed in bike accident

Feb 20, 2017-

 A man died and another sustained critical injuries after a motorbike they were riding on went out of control at Jaharsinghpauwa in Shankarapur Municipality-3 on the north-eastern outskirts of Kathmandu on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as biker Shiva Thakuri, 26, of Saraswatinagar, Boudha, KMC-6.

Police said that pillion rider Sunita Tamang, 19, of Madi, Chitwan and currently residing at Jorpati was seriously injured in the incident.

She is receiving treatment at the People’s Life Care Hospital in Sankhu.

KHOTANG: At least 40 people are feared dead when a commuter bus en route to Kathmandu from Diktel met with an accident at Barkhetar of Arkhanle on Tuesday.

According to an eye witness, the bus (Ba 2 Kha 6373) veered off the road and fell some 100 metres down the road at around 8:30 am.

The incident might have occurred due to narrow road.

Locals said that there is a slim chance for passengers to remain alive as the bus was not even visible from the road.

It has been learned that the number of passengers on board the bus was 28 in the beginning. But, the number increased to 40 when some passengers boarded the bus on their way.

The accident site is four hour walk from district headquarters Diktel. A team has been deployed to the site for rescue operation, said Police Inspector Saroj Rai of the District Police Office, Khotang.

The details of the accident are yet to come, police shared. Earlier too, several accidents had taken place in the area.

KHOTANG:  Death toll in Barkhetar bus accident has reached 24 after one more succumbed to injuries during the course of treatment.

According to Police Inspector Saroj Rai of the District Police Office, Khotang, bodies of 17 men and 7 women have been recovered from the incident site.

Among the deceased, identities of the 15 persons have been ascertained, Sub-Inpector Tej Bahadur Basnet of the Traffic Police informed.

The deceased have been identified as Arjun Upreti of Kathmandu, Santosh Katuwal of Diktel Municipality-14, Govinda Timsina of Dipsung, Rabin Rai of Chyasmitar, Major Rai of Dikuwa-8, Mitra Kumari Rai of Kharmi-5, Bimala Rai of Nirmalidanda-3, Bhairab Rai of Yamkha-7, Drabin Rai of Baswote-3 of Udayapur, Shanta Rai of Tamlicha-7 of Udayapur, Om Shree Rai of Tamlicha-5, Som Sundas of Panchan-1, Solukhumbu, Hem Sunuwar and Bhaju Narayan Shrestha of Thanagaun-3 of Udayapur, Sushma Rai of Solukhumbu.

Among the 31 injured, 23 people have been airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment. Seven injured are being treated at a local health post, police added.

कुनैरकुनै सवारीसाधनले अन्जानमा हर्न बजाए पनि ट्राफिक प्रहरीले सामान्य सोधपुछ गरेर मात्र छोडेका थिए । काठमाडौँको कोलाहलपूर्ण वातावरणमा सुधार आउने विश्वास सर्वसाधारणको प्रतिक्रिया दिएको ट्राफिक प्रहरीको भनाइ छ ।

महानगरीय ट्राफिक प्रहरी महाशाखाका प्रवक्ता लोकेन्द्रबहादुर मल्लले उपत्यकामा हर्न नै बजाउन नपाइनेभन्दा पनि जथाभावी हर्न बजाउनेलाई नियन्त्रण गर्न यो कार्यक्रम लागु गरिएको बताए। ‘जाममा परेका बेला हर्न बजाउने, रमाइलोको लागि जथाभावी हर्न बजाउनेलाई नियन्त्रण गर्न खोजिएको हो’, मल्लले भने, ‘नबजाई नहुने आवश्यक ठाउँ हर्न बजाउन रोकिएको होइन्।’
उनले अनावश्यक ठाउँमा हर्न बजाउने सवारी चालकलाई फिल्डमा खटेका ट्राफिकले तत्कालै मूल्यांकन गरेर कारबाही हुने÷नहुने निर्णय गर्ने पनि बताए। ‘आज विदा भएकाले त्यसैपनि कम सवारी चले’, मल्लले भने, ‘त्यसमा पनि कसैले जथाभावी हर्न बजाएको नपाइएकाले कारबाही भएन।’

काठमाडौँ उपत्यकामा दैनिक सातदेखि आठ लाख सवारीसाधन गुड्छन् । यी सवारीसाधनले अनावश्यकरुपमा उत्पन्न गर्ने ध्वनिका कारण मानव स्वास्थ्यमा गम्भीर पार्ने गरेको बुझिएको छ ।

काठमाडौँ महानगरपालिकाले ध्वनि प्रदूषण कम गर्ने उद्देश्यले यस अभियानलाई आजदेखि लागू गरेको हो । अनावश्यक स्थानमा हर्न बजाएमा रु पाँच हजारसम्म जरिवाना गर्न सकिने अधिकार ट्राफिक प्रहरीसँग रहेको महानगरका प्रवक्ता ज्ञानेन्द्रबहादुर कार्कीले बताए।

उनले महानगर र ट्राफिक प्रहरीले सहकार्य गरेर हर्न निषेध गर्ने अभियानलाई सर्वसाधारण एवम् सवारीसाधन प्रयोगकर्तासम्म पुर्‍याउन नयाँ चेतनामूलक कार्यक्रम ल्याउने जानकारी दिए । महानगरलाई अन्य प्रदूषणबाट पनि मुक्त गर्ने अभियान ल्याउने कार्कीको भनाइ छ ।

यो अभियान काठमाडौँमा मात्र होइन, विश्वका ठूला सहरमा पनि लागू गरिएको छ । भारतका विभिन्न सहरमा हर्न बजाउन निशेष गरिएको छ भने अन्य मुलुकमा पनि हर्न बजाउन नपाइने व्यवस्था छ ।

यातायात व्यवस्था विभाग, काठमाडौँ महानगरपालिका र ट्राफिक प्रहरीको समन्वयमा ल्याएको यस सकारात्मक अभियानमा आम सवारी प्रयोगकर्ताले मनन गर्नैपर्ने देखिएको छ । नयाँ वर्षसँगै सुरु गरिएको यस अभियान सफल हुने देखिएको छ ।
