KHOTANG:  Death toll in Barkhetar bus accident has reached 24 after one more succumbed to injuries during the course of treatment.

According to Police Inspector Saroj Rai of the District Police Office, Khotang, bodies of 17 men and 7 women have been recovered from the incident site.

Among the deceased, identities of the 15 persons have been ascertained, Sub-Inpector Tej Bahadur Basnet of the Traffic Police informed.

The deceased have been identified as Arjun Upreti of Kathmandu, Santosh Katuwal of Diktel Municipality-14, Govinda Timsina of Dipsung, Rabin Rai of Chyasmitar, Major Rai of Dikuwa-8, Mitra Kumari Rai of Kharmi-5, Bimala Rai of Nirmalidanda-3, Bhairab Rai of Yamkha-7, Drabin Rai of Baswote-3 of Udayapur, Shanta Rai of Tamlicha-7 of Udayapur, Om Shree Rai of Tamlicha-5, Som Sundas of Panchan-1, Solukhumbu, Hem Sunuwar and Bhaju Narayan Shrestha of Thanagaun-3 of Udayapur, Sushma Rai of Solukhumbu.

Among the 31 injured, 23 people have been airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment. Seven injured are being treated at a local health post, police added.

The bus (Ba 2 Kha 6373) en route to Kathmandu from Diktel had veered off the road and fell some 100 metres down the road at around 8:30 am.

‘हर्न निषेध’को पहिलो दिन

राजधानीको ध्वनि प्रदूषण कम गर्ने उद्देश्यले काठमाडौँ महानगरपालिकाले आजदेखि सुरु गरेको ‘हर्न निषेध’ अभियान प्रभावकारी देखिएको छ । राजधानीका सडकमा चल्ने सानाठूला सबै प्रकारका सबै सवारीसाधनले आक्कलझुक्कल हर्न बजाए पनि अधिकांशले हर्न बजाउन नहुने हेक्का राखेर वाहन चलाएको पाइयो ।

बौद्धदेखि सिंहदरबारसम्मको यात्रामा नुवाकोट महाकाली–५ का लक्ष्मण थापाले पानी बोकेको एउटा ट्याङ्करले बारम्बार हर्न बजाएपछि चावहिलमा ‘ड्युटी’ बसेका ट्रफिक प्रहरीलाई गुनासो गरेको बताए ।

ती ट्राफिक प्रहरीले ट्याङकर चालकलाई ‘हर्न बजाउन नहुने ज्ञान नभएको र उसले एकरदुई दिनमा सिक्ने’ जवाफ आफूलाई फर्काएको र कारबाही गरिरहनु नपर्ने बताएको थापा सुनाउँछन् ।

चावहिल–मित्रपार्क–सिफल–कालोपुल–ज्ञानेश्वर–कालिकास्थान हुँदै सिंहदरबारसम्म दुई पाङ्ग्रे सवारीसाधनमा यात्रा गरेका थापाले कहीँ पनि हर्न बजाउनु परेन ।

यसैगरी बालाजु माछापोखरी–सोह्रखुट्टे–ठमेल–लैनचौर–जमल हुँदै भद्रकाली आइपुगेका धादिङ नीलकण्ठ नगरपालिकाका सन्तोषी शर्माले पनि अन्य दिनजस्तो आज हर्न नबजेको अनुभव सुनाइन् ।

महानगरले चोक र आकाशेपुलमा अनावश्यक ध्वनिले मानव स्वास्थ्यमा हानि पुर्‍याउने चेतनामूलक जानकारी राखेकाले पनि केही सुधार आएको हुन सक्ने शर्माको बुझाइ छ ।

नयाँ बानेश्वर–बबरमहल–माइतीघर हुँदै स्कुटीमा भद्रकाली आएकी कृतिका खड्काले आफूले हर्न नबजाएको सुनाइन् । ‘आज सार्वजनिक विदा परेकाले होला अन्य दिनको तुलनामा सवारीसाधनको आवाज कम सुनियो’, कृतिका बताइन् ।

त्यस्तै बल्खु–कुलेश्वर–टेकु–त्रिपुरेश्वर हुँदै सुन्धारासम्म मोटरसाइकलमा आएका कृष्णराज पाण्डेले एक पटकमा मात्र अत्यावश्यक भएर हर्न बजाउन परेको बताए । उनले भने, “मलाई ‘नो हर्न’का विषयमा थाहा छ तर अप्ठ्यारो परेर बजाए ।”

कुनैरकुनै सवारीसाधनले अन्जानमा हर्न बजाए पनि ट्राफिक प्रहरीले सामान्य सोधपुछ गरेर मात्र छोडेका थिए । काठमाडौँको कोलाहलपूर्ण वातावरणमा सुधार आउने विश्वास सर्वसाधारणको प्रतिक्रिया दिएको ट्राफिक प्रहरीको भनाइ छ ।

महानगरीय ट्राफिक प्रहरी महाशाखाका प्रवक्ता लोकेन्द्रबहादुर मल्लले उपत्यकामा हर्न नै बजाउन नपाइनेभन्दा पनि जथाभावी हर्न बजाउनेलाई नियन्त्रण गर्न यो कार्यक्रम लागु गरिएको बताए। ‘जाममा परेका बेला हर्न बजाउने, रमाइलोको लागि जथाभावी हर्न बजाउनेलाई नियन्त्रण गर्न खोजिएको हो’, मल्लले भने, ‘नबजाई नहुने आवश्यक ठाउँ हर्न बजाउन रोकिएको होइन्।’
उनले अनावश्यक ठाउँमा हर्न बजाउने सवारी चालकलाई फिल्डमा खटेका ट्राफिकले तत्कालै मूल्यांकन गरेर कारबाही हुने÷नहुने निर्णय गर्ने पनि बताए। ‘आज विदा भएकाले त्यसैपनि कम सवारी चले’, मल्लले भने, ‘त्यसमा पनि कसैले जथाभावी हर्न बजाएको नपाइएकाले कारबाही भएन।’

काठमाडौँ उपत्यकामा दैनिक सातदेखि आठ लाख सवारीसाधन गुड्छन् । यी सवारीसाधनले अनावश्यकरुपमा उत्पन्न गर्ने ध्वनिका कारण मानव स्वास्थ्यमा गम्भीर पार्ने गरेको बुझिएको छ ।

काठमाडौँ महानगरपालिकाले ध्वनि प्रदूषण कम गर्ने उद्देश्यले यस अभियानलाई आजदेखि लागू गरेको हो । अनावश्यक स्थानमा हर्न बजाएमा रु पाँच हजारसम्म जरिवाना गर्न सकिने अधिकार ट्राफिक प्रहरीसँग रहेको महानगरका प्रवक्ता ज्ञानेन्द्रबहादुर कार्कीले बताए।

उनले महानगर र ट्राफिक प्रहरीले सहकार्य गरेर हर्न निषेध गर्ने अभियानलाई सर्वसाधारण एवम् सवारीसाधन प्रयोगकर्तासम्म पुर्‍याउन नयाँ चेतनामूलक कार्यक्रम ल्याउने जानकारी दिए । महानगरलाई अन्य प्रदूषणबाट पनि मुक्त गर्ने अभियान ल्याउने कार्कीको भनाइ छ ।

यो अभियान काठमाडौँमा मात्र होइन, विश्वका ठूला सहरमा पनि लागू गरिएको छ । भारतका विभिन्न सहरमा हर्न बजाउन निशेष गरिएको छ भने अन्य मुलुकमा पनि हर्न बजाउन नपाइने व्यवस्था छ ।

यातायात व्यवस्था विभाग, काठमाडौँ महानगरपालिका र ट्राफिक प्रहरीको समन्वयमा ल्याएको यस सकारात्मक अभियानमा आम सवारी प्रयोगकर्ताले मनन गर्नैपर्ने देखिएको छ । नयाँ वर्षसँगै सुरु गरिएको यस अभियान सफल हुने देखिएको छ । 

26 killed, 36 injured in bus accident in Nepal

At least 26 people died and 36 more were injured when an overcrowded bus veered off a mountain road in Nepal, officials said Friday.

Government administrator Krishna Chandra Poudel said the bus plunged off the road Thursday near a village about 400 kilometers (250 miles) west of the capital, Kathmandu. The bus rolled about 200 meters (650 feet) down a slope before crashing into the Pasagad river.

Local villagers helped police and soldiers pull the bodies and the injured from the wreckage.

Poudel said rescue helicopters reached the accident area late Thursday and were able to fly 18 of the injured to a hospital in Nepalgunj city.

Another eight injured people were being flown out on Friday but had to wait for the weather to clear up.

The bus was carrying more than 60 passengers while traversing what is considered one of the most dangerous mountainous highways in Nepal.

Accidents in Nepal are mostly blamed on poorly maintained roads and vehicle conditions. The country is covered by mountains and the roads are also usually narrow.

One killed two injured in road accident

One person was killed and two others injured in a road accident at Machchhepauwa VDC-3 of Kavrepalanchowk district on Saturday, police said.

The accident took place when a mini truck (Ba 3 Kha 4100) heading to Machchhepauwa from Mangaltar met with the accident at the place. The deceased is Shantaman Tamang of the same place, police added.

Similarly, the injured are Shantaman's wife Thuli Maya Tamang and driver Sunil Tamang, 22, of Sindhuli district and they are undergoing treatment at Dhulikhel based hospital.

According to police, the vehicle fell some 30 meters down from the road.

The vehicle was loaded with construction materials including sand.

Woman killed in Nuwakot scooter accident

A woman died and another sustained critical injuries when a scooter they were riding on met with an accident at Pairo in Kakani Rural Municipality-1 of Nuwakot district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as scooter rider Rupa Tamang, 20, of Jarankhu, Tarakeshwar Municipality-11.

They were heading towards Nuwakot from Kathmandu to celebrate the Nepali New Year when the incident occurred this morning, according to Inspector Kailash Bhattarai.

Police said that Srijana Shrestha, 16, of Nayabazaar, who was riding pillion on the scooter, was injured in the incident.

She is receiving treatment at a hospital in Kathmandu.

The body of Tamang has been taken to the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) for post-mortem.

The incident took place after Tamang lost control of the two-wheeler (Ba 79 Pa 9098) and fell some 20 metres down the road, police said.

1 killed, 2 injured in Parsa jeep accident

Apr 6, 2017- A man died and two others were injured when a jeep they were travelling in turned turtle at Mahuwan in Parsa district on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Tharu Mukhiya Bin, 47, of Paterwa-7, Parsa.
Bin along with his family members were returning home from Birgunj when the incident occurred, DSP Chakra Raj Joshi of the District Police Office, Parsa, informed.

One of the injured has been identified as Bin’s 15-year-old daughter Kajal Kumari. The identity of other person injured in the incident is yet to be established.

They are undergoing treatment at the Birgunj-based Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital, SP Joshi said.

Police said that they have impounded the vehicle (BRBR 1P 8554) for investigation while the driver is on the run following the incident.

The body of Bin has been brought to the Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital for post-mortem.
